In-Home Comfort Resource Kit

When preparing to provide end-of-life care for a loved one who wishes to remain at home, there are many details to consider. There are the necessary supplies and information that caregivers need to properly assist in the care of a family member or friend.

Hospice Prince Edward has created an "In-Home Comfort Resource Kit" that will help ensure the highest quality of life in the time that remains. The In-Home Comfort Resource Kit has been designed by Hospice Prince Edward, in consultation with clients and caregivers, to give both comfort and information. The kits are tailored to meet the needs of a client and may include items such as a quilt donated by the Prince Edward Quilters Guild, skin cream, soothing music, a room monitor, wool socks, straws and a resource book.

Every kit includes a binder organizer to help quickly locate community resources, to help monitor equipment, to schedule visits from family and friends, and a journal for one person to communicate to the next. An experienced hospice volunteer will bring the kit to the client's home and explain to caregivers the items provided and provide the opportunity to ask questions and gain confidence to provide care.

The Home Comfort Resource Kit and guidance of a hospice volunteer are invaluable in such a time of family need. The philosophy of hospice care focuses on supporting the journey of living with dying, rather than on the dying process. The Comfort Resource Kit is one of many resources Hospice Prince Edward provides to help families and friends support a loved one during their end-of-life journey.

Funding for the kit was generously provided by the Prince Edward County Community Foundation.
