Hospice Prince Edward Home

A terminal illness is not just a physical diagnosis. The hospice philosophy involves a commitment to address the physical, emotional, spiritual and informational needs of people with a terminal or life-threatening illness.

It also involves a commitment to care for family and close friends during the progress of an illness and in time of bereavement.

We believe that caregiving is a matter of mutual support. Everyone providing care in a palliative or bereavement situation needs to be able to receive as well as to give support.

We believe that, wherever possible, individuals should have the ability to choose to die where they die.

Even though you cannot volunteer please know that resources are available for anyone in need.

“Palliative care is a philosophy of care, it is the combination of active and compassionate therapies intended to comfort and support the individuals and families who are living with life-threatening illness. During periods of illness and bereavement, palliative care strives to meet physical, psychological, social and spiritual expectations and needs, while remaining sensitive to personal, cultural and religious values, beliefs and practices. Palliative care may be combined with therapies aimed at reducing or curing illness, or it may be the total focus of care.”
